Iva Radivojević's Film 'Utuqaq' on Arctic Ice Now Available on Field of Vision

In the Arctic, ice is omnipresent yet gradually vanishing. Iva Radivojević’s new short film ‘Utuqaq,’ now streaming on Field of Vision, delves into the implications of climate change through the lens of this essential natural element. The film follows four scientists as they embark on a mission to extract ice cores amidst freezing conditions.

Set against the backdrop of Greenland’s expansive and otherworldly terrain, ice emerges as a reflective entity, witnessing the researchers’ efforts to uncover decades of climatic data. Narrated in Kalaallisut (West Greenlandic) by Aviaja Lyberth, ‘Utuqaq’ offers a poignant reflection on the losses incurred due to our environmental crisis and what endures. The title ‘Utuqaq’ translates to ‘ice that lasts year after year.’

Radivojević, known for works such as ‘Evaporating Borders,’ ‘Notes from the Border,’ and ‘Aleph,’ crafts ‘Utuqaq’ through her writing, filming, and editing. The film is accessible for viewing on Field of Vision, Vimeo, and YouTube.

Field of Vision is a documentary initiative driven by filmmakers, dedicated to commissioning and supporting original short and feature-length nonfiction films, as well as episodic series, focusing on stories from around the world.
