Enhance Your Artistic Journey at New York Studio School

Enhance Your Artistic Journey at New York Studio School

Become part of a committed artist community through full-time studies in drawing, painting, and sculpture at the New York Studio School. Established in 1964, NYSS emphasizes learning directly from seasoned artists, engaging in perceptual studio work, and embracing drawing as a fundamental tool for expressing ideas and experiences. Students at NYSS develop unique visual expressions and build lifelong personal studio practices.

The 60-credit, two-year MFA program is designed to ignite imagination, refine technical skills, and foster a commitment to art. Each semester begins with a two-week intensive Marathon led by NYSS faculty and guest instructors, which sets the tone for the semester. The first year focuses on a variety of studio disciplines, while the second year shifts towards nurturing personal artistic vision. The curriculum includes an Evening Lecture Series, technical workshops, personalized faculty mentorship, group critiques, visits from artists, and guided trips, culminating in a Critical Studies seminar, thesis, and exhibition.

The three-year Certificate Program at NYSS offers a profound opportunity to advance one’s artistic career, available both in-person and online. Each semester kicks off with the Marathon, followed by coursework and independent studio work, enriched by lectures, seminars, and professional workshops. Students receive personalized guidance, engage in group critiques, and participate in exhibitions. This flexible program allows for semester-by-semester participation, concluding with a Certificate Completion Exhibition. The Virtual Certificate option enables global artists to expand their skills and concepts within their own studios, combining the school’s practical focus with a personalized online approach.

NYSS is committed to accessibility, offering extensive scholarships to ensure financial aid for all applicants. The priority deadline for financial aid applications is February 15, 2026.
