Winter Storm Hernando is sweeping through the East Coast, prompting closures of various institutions, including museums. In New York City, Mayor Zohran Mamdani has enforced a temporary travel restriction, resulting in the closure of major museums for the day. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, which stayed open during January’s snowstorm, is among those that have shut their doors.
Other notable New York museums that have closed include the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, MoMA PS1, the Museum of the City of New York, the Jewish Museum, the Cooper Hewitt Museum, and the National Museum of the American Indian.
Additionally, Dia Beacon in Upstate New York, The Aldrich in Connecticut, and Mass MoCA, as well as the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, have also announced closures. However, all Smithsonian museums are continuing to operate as usual in Washington, DC.
