Christophe Leribault Takes Helm as New Director of the Louvre

On February 25, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that Christophe Leribault, the current director of the Musee d’Orsay, will be the new director of the Louvre in Paris. This appointment follows the recent elevation of Laurence des Cars to the role of president overseeing the management of France’s national museums.

Leribault, at the helm of the Musee d’Orsay since 2021, is renowned for his expertise in French art spanning the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. His leadership at the Musee d’Orsay has been marked by a broadened array of exhibitions and programs, which have captured the attention of the international art community.

This strategic appointment is expected to bolster the Louvre’s standing as a leading cultural institution worldwide. Leribault’s experience and knowledge are anticipated to contribute significantly to the museum’s ongoing efforts to enhance its global cultural influence.
