Dalí Museum Secures Iconic Surrealist Ballet Set

The Dalí Museum, located in St. Petersburg, Florida, has successfully acquired the largest artwork ever created by Salvador Dalí. This impressive piece, dating back to 1939, served as a set for a Surrealist ballet.

Known as “Bacchanale,” the artwork was designed as a stage backdrop for a ballet choreographed by Léonide Massine. It showcases a mesmerizing dreamlike landscape, highlighting Dalí’s distinctive surrealist aesthetics.

This acquisition is a remarkable addition to the museum’s already extensive collection of over 2,400 Dalí works. The museum intends to feature this piece in an upcoming exhibition focused on the artist’s contributions to stage design.
