Unveiling the Price Tags: Booth Costs at NYC Art Fairs

Though Shakespeare famously stated that “all the world’s a stage,” in the art realm, the prime platform is often a newly constructed booth at an art fair. In New York City, the spring art fair season is in high gear, highlighted this week by Frieze at The Shed, which commences for VIPs today, May 13.

Art fairs serve as hubs where galleries and artists can interact with collectors and curators, with the aim of selling enough pieces to justify the expenses. Calculating this is crucial for exhibitors since booth fees vary significantly, ranging from a few thousand to tens of thousands of dollars. We reached out to 13 New York art fairs to discuss booth pricing, and their responses (or lack thereof) offered insights into the economic landscape and decision-making process for galleries in today’s competitive market.

Booth fees are not the sole consideration; shipping, installation, and travel expenses also factor in, as does gaining fair admission initially. However, the data below sheds light on an area of the art world often kept under wraps. Continue reading for some unexpected revelations, including potentially the best deal available at a NYC art fair.

Frieze offers booths at New York’s prominent spring fair, with costs largely depending on booth location. Prices start at $31,977 to $42,669 for smaller booths in the main section and rise to $91,700 to $105,717 for larger ones. The Focus section, aimed at younger galleries, offers more economical options from $11,825 to $14,795. A Frieze New York representative confirmed to Hyperallergic that the 2026 booth fees remain unchanged from 2025. This year, the Sherman Family Foundation Acquisition Fund will debut, supporting Focus section artists with acquisitions and a $5,000 award.

NADA offers booths for $11,000 in the Galleries section and $3,500 for the NADA Projects tier. Fair organizers cited production costs as the basis for these prices, which have largely held steady since 2022. NADA Projects, positioned as an incubator for low-risk participation, is especially appealing given NADA’s strong reputation.
