Betye Saar, Artist Who Bridged Worlds Through Her Work, Dies at 99

Betye Saar, who sifted through the darkest corners of Americana and transformed its most hateful portrayals of Blackness into layered assemblages that were mystical, affecting, and revolutionary, died at 99 in Los Angeles yesterday, July 26.

Her death was confirmed by Roberts Projects, the gallery that represented her.
