Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Finally Sets an Opening Date

Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Finally Sets an Opening Date

After 20 years of delays and allegations of abuse against migrant workers, the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi has at last announced an opening date: December 11. Yay?

Meanwhile, another major museum is heading into its own labor dispute. Unionized workers at the Victoria and Albert Museum’s East Storehouse location voted unanimously to strike, saying they are not given enough time to use the toilet or drink water.

It can seem, at times, as though every institution is becoming an Amazon warehouse. That is the mood, at least, across the global museum world.

But not every trend runs in the same direction. Sometimes the opposite happens, as a former military settlement turned artist settlement in Taipei suggests.

May we all head that way.
