VIENNA — The Albertina Museum is presenting “Fascination of Paper: Tizian to Kiefer,” an extensive exhibition examining how artists across five centuries have used paper as a primary medium for experimentation, study, and artistic expression. The presentation brings together works ranging from the Renaissance to contemporary practice, illustrating the material’s enduring relevance.
Open: December 2025 – April 2026
The exhibition includes drawings, prints, and works on paper by figures such as Titian, Dürer, Rubens, Rembrandt, Schiele, Picasso, and Anselm Kiefer. By placing historical and modern works side by side, the Albertina highlights how paper has served as a space for both intimate studies and ambitious conceptual projects.
A significant portion of the exhibition draws on the museum’s renowned graphic arts collection, complemented by select loans. The display emphasizes the technical diversity of paper-based work—ranging from rapid sketches to elaborate compositions—and offers insight into the creative processes that underpin major artistic movements.
Situated in one of Europe’s most respected institutions for works on paper, “Fascination of Paper” provides a broad overview of artistic innovation across centuries, underscoring the central role of paper in the development of visual art.
