Residencies, Workshops, & Fellowships

2027 Erie Canal Artists in Residence — Erie Canal Museum & New York State Canal Corporation
Projects should engage with the Erie Canal’s history, reflect on its present, and imagine its future. All visual mediums are welcome, with local and Indigenous artists preferred. Two selected artists will each receive a $10,000 stipend.

Jentel Artist Residency — Winter/Spring 2027 Residencies
Jentel Artist Residency is offering 3-week residencies in the foothills of Wyoming’s Bighorn Mountains, including a $300 stipend, a private bedroom, shared living spaces, and a separate studio. The application fee is $30. Read more on hyperallergic.com.

Two Artist Fellowships – Hodder & PAF — Princeton University, Lewis Center for the Arts
Princeton Arts Fellowships last two years and require teaching, and they are open to dance, music, and theater artists. Hodder Fellowships run for one year without teaching and are open to dance, music, theater, and visual artists.

Open Calls for Art & Writing

Art at a Time Like This — Take One Action
This open call seeks bold political images and ideas for civic action in support of democracy. Selected artists will participate in a public art campaign this fall and/or appear in an online exhibition. Honorarium up to $1,000.

Culture Forward — The Svane Family Foundation
This three-year, $5M initiative supports arts and culture projects that attract audiences to Downtown San Francisco. Local and national artists and organizations may apply, and experimentation is encouraged.

Grants & Awards

The Bennett Prize – 2026/2027 Award Cycle
Open to women figurative realist painters, this prize awards $75,000 and a solo exhibition to the grand prize winner. The first runner-up will receive $10,000. A five-person jury will choose 10 finalists for a group exhibition that will tour the US. The application fee is $50. Read more on Hyperallergic.

2026 Foundwork Artist Prize — Foundwork
The recipient will receive a $10,000 grant and studio visits with jurors Stefan Benchoam, François Ghebaly, Manuela Moscoso, Gabi Ngcobo, Esther Schipper. Three shortlisted artists will each receive $1,000 grants.

Prize for Contemporary Southern Art — The Gibbes Museum and Society 1858
This prize is awarded to an artist whose work contributes to a new understanding of art in the South. The winner receives a $10,000 unrestricted prize, an artwork displayed at the museum for one year, and a three-day series of events in Charleston honoring the artist.
