Laura Phipps Appointed to Lead Gochman Family Collection

Laura Phipps has been named the new director of the Gochman Family Collection, which houses one of the largest collections of contemporary Native American art worldwide. Phipps previously worked as an associate curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art, where she gained significant experience in the art world.

In her new role, Phipps will focus on expanding the Gochman Family Collection’s offerings and enhancing the visibility of Native American art and culture. “I am thrilled to join the Gochman Family Collection at this exciting time in its development,” Phipps expressed in a statement. “The collection has a remarkable breadth and depth, and I look forward to building on its strengths and expanding its reach,” she added.

Located in New York, the Gochman Family Collection is celebrated for its comprehensive selection of works by contemporary Native American artists, which includes paintings, sculptures, and multimedia installations. The collection actively participates in lending pieces for exhibitions and works collaboratively with institutions to increase the appreciation and understanding of Native American art.
