Metropolitan Museum Names Oluremi C. Onabanjo as New Photography Curator

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced the appointment of Oluremi C. Onabanjo, previously the Peter Schub Curator at the Museum of Modern Art, as the new curator for its Department of Photographs. This strategic decision comes as the Met prepares to launch its new photography wing, which will significantly enhance its already vast collection.

In her new position, Onabanjo will be responsible for overseeing the development and management of this innovative wing, dedicated entirely to the art of photography. Her appointment is aimed at strengthening the Met’s commitment to contemporary photography and expanding its influence globally within the art world.

Onabanjo is recognized for her extensive experience and visionary approach, which is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the department. Her leadership is anticipated to not only rejuvenate the museum’s photographic collections but also attract a broader audience to the Met.
