Permanent Closure Announced for Glasgow’s Centre for Contemporary Arts

Permanent Closure Announced for Glasgow's Centre for Contemporary Arts

After enriching Glasgow’s art scene for over three decades, the Centre for Contemporary Arts is set to shut its doors permanently. Established in 1992, the venue has been pivotal in showcasing innovative and avant-garde art in Scotland, offering a platform for numerous exhibitions, performances, and cultural events.

The closure decision stems from financial struggles that have intensified due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the ensuing restrictions, leading to a sharp decline in visitor numbers and income. These challenges have made it untenable for the institution to continue operations.

This development signifies a significant loss for Glasgow’s cultural sphere, as the Centre for Contemporary Arts has played a crucial role in the city’s dynamic art community.
