CA Conrad has decided to cancel a scheduled appearance at the Swiss Institute to express solidarity with the alleged victim of artist TM. In a tweet today, Conrad stated, “I grew up with a violent stepfather & I know how this violence reverberates through the years in the lives of victims. There are terrific, dedicated people working at Swiss, but I canceled my upcoming appearance in solidarity with the victim.”
Conrad was expected to participate in a reading at the institute on October 16, which was part of the exhibition ‘Extinct in New York’ by artist Michael Wang. This exhibition was organized in collaboration with the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. Following Conrad’s announcement, the event page for the reading was removed from the Swiss Institute’s website.
The Swiss Institute expressed its sentiments in a statement to Hyperallergic, saying, “While we are disappointed in the cancellation of CA Conrad’s reading, we fully respect and honor their decision.”
