Martin Parr, acclaimed for his insightful and humorous depictions of tourists, passed away on December 6 at his residence in Bristol, England. The announcement was made by the Martin Parr Foundation, which he established in 2017 in Bristol.
No cause of death was given by the foundation, although Parr had been diagnosed with myeloma, a type of bone marrow cancer, in 2021. Earlier this year, The Guardian noted that he was in remission, though he continued to undergo treatment with chemotherapy tablets.
In a statement, the foundation expressed, “The Martin Parr Foundation and Magnum Photos will collaborate to preserve and disseminate Martin’s legacy. Further details will be shared in due course.”
