Rice University Expands Free Tuition to Families Earning Up to $200,000

Rice University, whose arts undergraduate programs have been steadily gaining traction, will expand its tuition-free policy to students from families earning between $100,000 and $200,000 annually, beginning with the cohort entering in 2027.

The Houston university had previously offered free tuition to students from families with incomes ranging from $75,000 to $140,000. It also covered tuition, mandatory fees, and room and board for students whose families earned up to $75,000, a threshold that has now been increased to $100,000.

The change broadens the scope of Rice’s financial aid commitments while maintaining its support for lower-income students. The updated policy reflects a significant expansion of the university’s tuition assistance program.
