Smithsonian Modifies Exhibit Text, Omits Trump Impeachment References

The National Portrait Gallery at the Smithsonian has opted to remove a descriptive label from a photograph of former US president Donald Trump, which included references to his two impeachment trials. The label was part of the ‘America’s Presidents’ exhibition.

This decision was made after it was determined that the mention of impeachments did not align with the gallery’s standard practice of focusing exclusively on presidential achievements. The action came in response to a visitor’s complaint, which initiated a review of the gallery’s labeling guidelines.

The gallery clarified that its labels typically concentrate on biographical details and notable successes, and therefore, the inclusion of Trump’s impeachments was deemed inconsistent with these criteria.
