Exploring Identity Through Photography: Will Wilson’s Exhibition

Exploring Identity Through Photography: Will Wilson’s Exhibition

The Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, in collaboration with Art Bridges, proudly announces the exhibition In Conversation: Will Wilson, available for viewing in the Main Gallery until Sunday, August 23, 2026. The exhibition showcases a collection of modern photographs by Diné (Navajo) artist Will Wilson, born in 1969, alongside historical images by Edward Sheriff Curtis.

Wilson’s art critically addresses the portrayal and representation of Native peoples throughout history. By utilizing contemporary photographic techniques and digital media, he engages with Curtis’s significant project, The North American Indian (1907–1930), prompting audiences to ponder issues of identity, visibility, and the authority over image creation. This juxtaposition of past and present in In Conversation provides an insightful exploration of photography’s influence on cultural storytelling.

Concurrent with this exhibition, the Visual Arts Center will feature Present and Growing, a solo exhibition by Gabriel Garcia Roman, in the Mitzi and Warren Eisenberg Gallery. Moreover, With Passing Years, exhibiting works by Chrystofer Davis, will be displayed in the Marité and Joe Robinson Strolling Gallery I, concluding on June 7, 2026.
