As Israel continues its targeted land seizures and military offensives, the Mount Amel Castles in Lebanon and the archaeological ruins of Sebastia in the Occupied West Bank were among six new sites urgently placed this week on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites in Danger.
The international agency had already identified both locations as vulnerable when it inscribed them as World Heritage Sites during the World Heritage Committee’s 48th session in Busan, South Korea.
Israel denounced the designations, accusing UNESCO of “cynical exploitation of cultural heritage for political purposes.”
