On May 13, over a hundred employees from more than twenty different departments at the Seattle Art Museum declared their intention to unionize. This initiative has arisen due to concerns about their salaries, job stability, and workplace conditions.
The move is indicative of a wider trend of unionization within the United States’ cultural sectors, as workers push for stronger representation and improved working circumstances.
The museum’s diverse staff, which includes roles such as curators, educators, and maintenance personnel, is collaborating with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) to establish their union officially.
