Banksy’s Shredded Artwork Fetches Unprecedented $25.4 Million at Auction

In a remarkable twist, Banksy’s notorious shredded artwork, initially known as ‘Girl with Balloon’, has astonishingly sold for a record $25.4 million at auction. The piece, which famously self-destructed in part during a 2018 auction, has been retitled ‘Love is in the Bin’.

Sotheby’s, the auction house responsible for the sale, announced that a private collector acquired the piece following an intense bidding competition. This transaction sets a new benchmark for Banksy, whose creations are increasingly coveted in the art world.

The auction has sparked renewed debate over the valuation of art and the influence of the artist in today’s market. Banksy, celebrated for his thought-provoking and politically infused artworks, has yet to comment on this latest development.
