Sotheby’s to Host Significant Auction of Modern Art Masterpieces

Sotheby’s has revealed plans for an upcoming auction showcasing an impressive collection of modern art treasures. Scheduled to occur in New York this November, the event will feature works from esteemed artists including Pablo Picasso, Francis Bacon, and Joan Mitchell. This auction is poised to attract widespread interest from global collectors, with several artworks projected to exceed the $20 million mark.

The centerpiece of the auction, according to Sotheby’s, will be Picasso’s “Femme Assise Pres d’une Fenetre (Marie-Therese)”, expected to achieve a sale price between $40 million and $60 million. Other distinguished pieces set to be auctioned include Bacon’s “Study for a Portrait” and Mitchell’s “Noon”.

This auction forms part of Sotheby’s broader initiative to reach both traditional and emerging audiences by utilizing online platforms for remote bidding. The art market has witnessed a considerable increase in online engagement, a trend hastened by the COVID-19 pandemic. Charles Stewart, CEO of Sotheby’s, remarked, “We are thrilled to present this extraordinary collection to the world. It reflects our commitment to bringing exceptional art to market in innovative ways.”
