As federal grant cuts continue to disrupt funding for nonprofits, the demand for private funders who support mission-driven work has intensified. In response, the Vilcek Foundation introduced an open call for grant applications in 2025 to meet this growing need. This initiative furthered the foundation’s commitment to grant-giving as it marks its 25th anniversary. Now, the foundation is inviting applications for the 2026 Vilcek Foundation Grants, entering its second year.
Eligible nonprofit organizations that celebrate and support immigrant contributions in arts, sciences, culture, and society are encouraged to apply for grants up to $20,000 by April 30. Since its inception 25 years ago, the Vilcek Foundation has aimed to increase its impact sustainably while honoring its mission to champion immigrant contributions in the United States and promote the arts and sciences.
“Our primary objective with this grantmaking is to diversify our funding reach and enhance accessibility, while fostering partnerships with organizations in all 50 states, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands,” stated Chief Programs Officer Shinnie Kim. Since its first grants in 2001, the foundation has distributed nearly $7.6 million to nonprofits in 32 states and Guam.
Recent grants have aided initiatives at institutions like Utah State University, the Mint Museum of Art, Graywolf Press, Cincinnati Opera, and Cinema Tropical, focusing on immigrant artists and leaders. Funding has been directed towards diverse programs, from bold exhibitions and installations to theater workshops highlighting Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, and professional development for immigrant and refugee farmers.
“We view our grants as investments in organizations that distinguish themselves through innovative approaches and bold, creative outcomes,” explained Grants Officer Liz Boylan. “The ideal recipient achieves significant community impact and aligns with the Vilcek Foundation’s mission.” Interested nonprofits must register and apply via the foundation’s grant portal by 11:59 pm (ET) on April 30, 2026.
